From 1992-2003, John ran his own firm, J.D. Ruhmann and Associates, focusing on technical and group staffing in life sciences. He expanded his business into other scientific specialties as well as growing his client base into the Fortune 500 sector. He built entire engineering teams at large-scale “greenfield” manufacturing plants and was staffing entire national sales teams for new company divisions.
John originally joined Levin & Company in 1988. One of John’s first projects was building the Technical and Clinical Affairs groups for Chiron. He continued with various individual and group placements for a variety of young life science companies. John returned to Levin & Company in 2004 and brings the firm additional institutional and technical expertise as well as leading the firm’s focus in greentech, cleantech, bio-fuels, renewable resource development, industrial and agricultural biotech.
John’s expertise includes:
- A full spectrum of placements in functional and industrial specialties including: Research & Development, Manufacturing, Engineering, Clinical, Regulatory, General Management, Financial Management, Sales and Marketing in industries such as biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medical devices, instrumentation, greentech and biofuels.
- A strong interest in science which results in a deeper understanding and increased sales ability of client companies and their technology.
- A straight forward, direct and informal communication style. This brings clients honest and clear feedback about the open position(s) and the market’s view of their company and technology.
- A long-term client development vision; ultimately, the goal being Levin & Company becoming a “go to” resource for attracting top-notch human capital for our clients. In essence, a familiar outside vendor that acts as an extension of your human resource efforts.
- A track record of building value added relationships and creating bridges between academia, investment and entrepreneurial companies. It is not uncommon for John to utilize our network and make initial introductions or referrals to potential investors and collaborators.
